Israel will plan to add 800 megawatts of energy storage!

Time: May 16, 2023

Israel’s Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure presented a national plan last week to deploy 800MW/3,200MWh of solar energy storage capacity, including Israel’s first large-scale storage facility.

The plan covers the construction of four 200 MW/800 MWh facilities, to be installed in phases according to system needs, and to employ different energy storage technologies. The four facilities will store electricity generated by renewable energy power plants located in the Jezreel Valley, Spring Valley and northern Israel. Additionally, they will enable power to be delivered to demand centers during peak periods.

The plan has been approved by Israel's National Planning Council and will be submitted to the government for approval. Last year, Israel's Ministry of the Environment released a plan map, planning that by 2030, 40% of Israel's energy will come from renewable sources. It then said that in order to achieve this goal, Israel should install around 20 GW of solar and 5.5 GW of storage capacity. Israel announced a reform in April aimed at promoting renewable energy generation by providing incentives for electricity production and energy storage.
