GameChange Solar, a US tracking bracket manufacturer, announced plans to double the capacity of its module manufacturing plant in Saudi Arabia to 6GW.

The plant currently produces Genius Tracker system components for large ground projects, and the company expects to complete the expansion in September this year.

The company said the expansion was due to significant growth in market demand for its products. Wood Mackenzie data shows that the company will achieve 55% year-on-year growth in 2023 and occupy 12% of the global tracking bracket market by the end of that year.

Jason Wang, vice president of China and Southeast Asia for GameChange Solar, said: "The expansion decision reflects our demand growth in the Saudi Arabian market and our preparation to meet this demand. The plant is already in operation and this expansion will enable us to move forward faster with upcoming large projects in the region."

The company did not specify whether the expansion will continue to cooperate with Chinese company Jiangsu Zhenjiang New Energy Equipment. The two parties worked together to build the plant last year.

This overseas manufacturing investment is a slight departure from GameChange Solar's usual strategy, which has historically focused more on domestic manufacturing in the United States. In 2024, its US manufacturing capacity has expanded to 36GW, and it has announced that it will use enough US-made solar panels in its Genius Tracker products to receive the maximum benefit of the 45X advanced manufacturing production tax credit under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

But in recent years, as President Trump has tried to cut support for clean energy projects, the future of these financial mechanisms is uncertain. The "Big and Beautiful Bill" passed by the US House of Representatives last month proposes to cut multiple renewable energy tax credits, including the 45X tax credit - the policy will be reduced in size in 2030 and completely terminated in 2032.
